In a moment of boredom a few nights ago, I was flipping channels and landed on MTV's Jersey Shore. I've been to the Seaside Heights, NJ on several occasions and often admire some of the intricate haircuts on the guys cruising the boardwalk.
Extremely low fades, design cuts, and crisp outlining take tremendous skill for a barber to execute flawlessly and I often enjoy seeing these types of cuts on the right guy -- even if it's for no other reason than the sheer artistry required to perform one of those styles.
That said, I think the hairstyle on Jersey Shore's Pauly D is a hot mess. The width near the round of the head really throws his face off balance and draws the focus up and away from his face.
By taking the sides in a bit, the focus now becomes his face (which, if you hadn't noticed before, is actually quite handsome).
I think the best styles are those that enhance a guy's face shape and provide balance to facial features -- a haircut should not overwhelm a man's total look, but should become an integrated part of it. The best cuts are those in which styling product merely enhances the look -- a great cut should be one that it touchable and should never require a case of firm hold gel. What do you think?
