Fun iPhone Hairstyle Apps

Need a New Style? There's an App for That.

By

Need a new hairstyle? There's an app for that. There are literally dozens of apps on the iPhone that will allow you to try on new styles, browse style galleries, or do funny makeovers. Some are helpful, while some are totally useless. Most focus on women's styles, but I've found a few that have men included. Of course, an iPhone, iPad, or and iPod Touch and iTunes are required.

1. Shave My Head by Headblade

Ever wanted to know what you'd look like bald?  This clever app lets you upload a photo and replace your locks with a little skin (and add glasses and facial hair) and share it by email, Facebook or Twitter.

2. Redo Hairstyle $0.99

This app lets you try on different hairstyles that you paste over your own photo, so you can see how the cut works with your face shape.  You can rotate, grow, shrink, change color, or flip the hair to make it fit your face.  The app's main drawback is that all of the different style options are on the right hand side of the screen, so you have to scroll quite a bit to get to the men's styles and they selection is a little limited. That said, it's a fun app to play around with.

3. Hair MakeOver $1.99

This app gives you the chance to try on different hairstyles. I like it's easy-to-use interface. Simply choose a photo from your library (or take one) and pick a style.  The main drawback to the interface is that it places your own face in an oval cutout so you really can't tell what the different hairstyles will look like with your actual face shape.  This app would be much better if the hairstyles were cutouts that you could place over your existing photos.

4. Muletizer $0.99

This app is great for literally minutes of fun. Simply choose a photo of yourself or a friend (or take one). Next, you can add a variety of mullets and trailer park accessories to complete your trashy makeover. This company also makes similar apps like 'Stachetastic , 80s Hair, and other entertaining makeover apps.

5. Haircut Envi $0.99

This simple app allows you to view hundreds of hairstyles from the internet -- a great way to show your barber or stylist what style you're trying to achieve. I like that you can save a style to your camera roll, making it easy to bookmark it for quick access later. The app can be dreadfully slow at times, but that's a minor annoyance.

6. Funny Haircuts $0.99

This simple app is nothing more than a slideshow of strange and unusual haircuts. It's good for a laugh or two.

7. Mohawk Me FREE

Want to know what you'd look like with a mohawk? There's an app for that. The interface for this app is clunky and unintuitive, but it's still good for a few minutes of fun. My biggest problem with this app is that it places an annoying description over part of the photo when you save it to your camera roll and the variety of mohawks is somewhat limited.

8. Does Your Hairstyle Say Something? FREE

Does your hairstyle say something about you? Download this app and click through the questionnaire to find out. It's really a pointless app, but I like what it said about me. My hair, according to the app's quiz result, says I'm "sexy." Yeah, that's me. I'm one sexy beast.
