I've got this client who always wants to stay one step ahead of the trends and knows just how to pull off a trendy look at work. He's always scouring the pages of magazines and the internet looking for that trendy men's haircut. I know he's not the only one. There are lots of guys who like to maintain a fresh look and stay one step ahead of the pack. But where do you look for emerging trends in men's hair? Look to the streets.
For American men, I believe the trends in men's hair most often start in the U.K. and make their way to the U.S.. The faux hawk started there as did the shag. Ivan Zoot, holder of multiple Guinness World Records for Haircutting and Director of Education and Training for Andis Clipper Company, echos my feelings. "A good example in clipper cuts would be design work -- also called carving -- which got very hot two years ago across the pond. I can now do this on stage in the U.S. and draw a crowd (and have progressive volunteers willing to go for it). What's hot on the streets in the U.K. will start popping up on trendy heads in California and New York two years later."
Of course, not all of us can hop a plane to the London to find out what's hot before we hit the salon. Where do we turn?
