American Idol's David Cook has started a trend. I'm seeing a lot more clients who come in asking for the sleek, separated shag the star is wearing on television. Here's how to get the look at home:
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 15 Minutes

Here's How:

  1. Apply a nickel-sized amount of gel to damp hair and blow dry straight down using a flat brush. Straighten hair by pulling the brush downward while directing the airflow downward as well.
  2. Work a small amount of pomade between the fingertips and apply to the ends of random sections by pulling the hair down through the fingers.
  3. Emulsify a very small amount of pomade between the palms of the hands and very lightly stroke the hair to create a sleek, shiny finish.

Tips:

  1. To create a grunge finish, rake a small amount of styling paste through the hair using the fingertips.
  2. Apply a small amount of pomade and rake the hair back off the forehead and behind the ears for a more groomed look.

What You Need:

  • Blow Dryer
  • Styling Gel
  • Pomade
  • Fingers
